STL Group’s extensive humanitarian efforts demonstrate an ongoing commitment to supporting communities in times of crisis and in periods of recovery.
The Aung Myint Mo Covid Center in Dagon Myothit South Township, Yangon, emerged as a critical pillar of support during Myanmar’s most challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally a public housing complex under the Department of Urban and Housing Development, the site was transferred in September 2020 to the Oxygen Donors and Volunteers Team led by the Shwe Than Lwin Group, enabling its swift conversion into a fully operational quarantine facility for families and individuals who had no safe alternatives. As the situation intensified, particularly with the spread of the Delta variant during the third wave in mid-2021, the centre was restructured to provide treatment services and remained prepared for reactivation until October 2023.
Throughout this time, the Shwe Than Lwin Group played a central role in establishing management systems, coordinating volunteers, guiding day-to-day operations and providing major financial support, contributing MMK 1,300 million for the centre’s functioning and an additional MMK 110 million for treatment operations. During its quarantine phase, the centre sheltered around 35,000 people, offering food, essential health support and reassurance, while its period as a treatment facility saw 834 patients admitted and 820 recoveries recorded; achievements made possible through the tireless efforts of volunteers, medical teams and partner organisations. The heartfelt expressions of gratitude from patients and volunteers alike reflect the profound emotional and humanitarian impact of the centre, which became a place of safety, dignity and hope during a time of fear and uncertainty. Bringing together business organisations, philanthropic groups and diverse multifaith and multiethnic communities, the Aung Myint Mo Covid Center stands as a significant milestone in Myanmar’s pandemic response and a lasting testament to the compassion, solidarity and collective strength that arose in the face of national crisis
