STL Group
STL Group traces its origins to the entrepreneurial journey of its founder, U Kyaw Win, whose early experiences in his uncle’s small tyre shop shaped his understanding of practical business operations. It was there that he first demonstrated a natural talent for trade. By exchanging a collection of discarded tyres for a used pickup truck, he generated the initial capital for his own auto trading venture.
Recognising Myanmar’s rising demand for vehicles, U Kyaw Win began sourcing used cars from Japan and gradually expanded into the import of heavy machinery, including trucks, buses and bulldozers. These early commercial efforts laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the Shwe Than Lwin (STL) Group, guided by his foresight, determination and commitment to national progress. His ability to identify emerging opportunities, combined with a vision for strengthening connectivity across the country, transformed a small trading operation into a rapidly evolving business platform.
Formally established in 1992, STL Group has since grown into one of Myanmar’s leading conglomerates, built on the founder’s ethos of resilience and purposeful expansion. Today, the Group operates across a broad spectrum of strategic sectors, including financial services, media and broadcasting, real estate and construction.
Prominent subsidiaries such as Sky Net, Shwe Than Lwin Properties, Shwe Than Lwin Highway and SHWE Bank reflect the founder’s original vision. Each contributes to national development, enhances connectivity and supports sustainable economic opportunities for communities across Myanmar. From a single tyre shop to a multi-sector group of national significance, STL’s story formed the early commercial foundation on which the Shwe Than Lwin Group would later be built. The Group established a diversified entity dedicated to serving as a source of national pride, a prominent example of Myanmar innovation, by engendering sustainable opportunities for the people of Myanmar.
